XII BIS-CEMLA Roundtable
  • DATE:
    June 17–18, 2019, Cartagena, Colombia.
  • Deadline registration date:
    April 8, 2019.
CEMLA, Bank for International Settlements (BIS) and Banco de la República (Colombia).
Its content can be divided into three broad themes. First, the accumulation of international reserves by central banks, which increased in a significant way in the 1990s and, once again, after the beginning of the global financial crisis. A topic of constant interest is the determination of the optimal level of international reserves. Second, international reserves management. In most countries, international reserves function as a self-insurance mechanism. Thus, although it is desirable to determine an expected return, its performance under adverse economic condition should be evaluated as well. Third, exchange rate interventions have been an instrument used by several economies in the region, with several objectives (for example, accumulate reserves, attenuate the exchange rate volatility, etc.) and the types of implementations (for example, discrete, rules-based, etc.).
  • Objective:
Create a forum in which policymakers discuss about reserve accumulation, their management, and the different types of interventions. Likewise, there will be a speaker, expert on one of the referred themes, with whom the participants will be able to exchange their opinions.
Senior central bank officials in a position to communicate central bank´s experiences and views on the topic and contribute and engage in the open discussion at the round table.
English and Spanish, with simultaneous translation.
